Mmmmmm..... Pretzels

So the other day I decided to try and make Pretzels... I got the recipe from my sister in law and believe me they are yummy, but don't over do it like I did. I seriously cannot have another green and red pretzel for at least a year min. Well I thought you all would like to try to make some too. So here is the yummy pretzel recipe

1 tablespoon of yeast

1 ½ Cups of warm water

½ Cup of brown sugar

4 to 4 ½ cups of white flour

Knead in Kitchen Aid for 10 min(or in any stand mixer)

Let Raise for 30 min

Roll into pretzels

Browning Stuff - 2 cups of water to 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Dip it in

Bake 8-10 min at 450 degrees

Dip in butter and salt when you get it out of the oven

Teething?

Well, I wasn't too surprised when Sullivan started teething. I had expected it this early because Drezden started teething about 3-4 months... What did surprise me was that Sullivan didn't start drooling until he had one tooth coming through... He also has tooth number two coming through only after 2 days of the first... I hope he becomes my happy little boy soon again!

Shot...Checkup...Shot

So this week was Sullivan's 4 month checkup... We ended up making an appointment out here in Tooele instead of driving into SLC. Well, I made an appointment to see a particular doctor and instead I ended up seeing a PA. What is the deal with that? I have no problems with the PA's, but why don't the receptionist tell you that you are not going to actually see the doctor.
I have never seen PA's until I moved out here to Tooele. I get a little flustered with it.. but yeah, the guy we saw was nice and I wouldn't mind seeing him again, but I think the receptionists should tell you who you are going to see before you get to the appointment.
1
Well, Sullivan weighed 16.2 lbs... he is definitely going to be bigger that his big sister, not to much bigger but bigger. He is just one happy boy! He had to get two shots and he only cried for 3 seconds... no lie. He is my little happy boy!

Wedding!!!

On Friday the 12 of December Michael and McKell were married in the Salt Lake City Temple. It was so nice to be able to go and support them and there decision to get married. It was a very beautiful wedding! The reception and luncheon were great too! We went to Marie Calender's in Bountiful and then afterwards we headed out to Layton (McKells home town) for the reception. We ended up getting a little lost on the way. Thanks to Todd for getting us unlost ;) Ha ha, I don't know if we would have made it on time if it were not for him!
Well, it was nice... They even had an Ice Sculpture of the SLC Temple that now sits in front of the in laws house. The boys thought it would be funny to have it in the yard, so it is there.

The first week in December already over???

Wow is all I can say… I know I have said it before but I am going to say it again… Wow, time sure does fly by!!! I was going through some clothes of Drezdens to give to a neighbors baby girl and as I was looking through some of the old clothes all I could think to myself was that Drezden was just 12 months old… not too long ago. Has 6 months really gone by? I haven’t noticed… Sullivan is already going to be 4 months old, and almost rolling over. Where did the days go?I guess this is a reminder to me to enjoy what I have now because it won’t be here tomorrow.
We are truly blessed with so much and yet we worry about what tomorrow brings without enjoying what we have now… I hope that I can slow down a little and stop to smell the flowers, and enjoy these cute babies of mine!

This is a first... and hopefully not the last

Drezden, unfortunately, has not been feeling like herself. She has had a little fever all day and has wanted to be cuddled non stop. Poor girl! She has no idea how bad we feel for her. We just want her to feel better and be back to her ever curious and mischievous self! Although, it is nice to have her be so cuddly and loving.
Well, since last week we have had our pack and play set up so that she could stay with us in our room while we had visitors. We have not taken it down yet... she has found lots of opportunities to climb onto my bed and then climb into the pack and play. She has loved having it around to play in. Well, earlier today while I was watching a program on tv she decided to go upstairs and being the protective mother that I am ;) I followed her just enough that I could see her start to climb onto my bed and climb over into the pack and play... I stayed on the stairs waiting for her to cry out and have me get her, but no cry. I figured she was alright so I went downstairs because I knew she was not very likely to climb out without making a fuss... Well, after about 15 or so minutes of having her upstairs all alone I had Phil go check on her and he found her lying down and resting. I couldn't believe it. She went into her pack and play to rest... This was a first.
I remember talking to Phil when she was younger wishing that she would just fall asleep when she was tired and not to try and fight it like little ones do. She is getting to be a "big girl"... how sad. She is only 19ish months and I feel like she is not the baby that I just had a few months ago. She is growing too fast... How do I get her to slow down a bit? I love her so much, she is such a blessing.

Thanksgiving Weekend

This Holiday weekend has been a busier one than normal... First I participated in a craft fair with my sister in law... It was held in Ogden, Utah; and to our disappointment there was not a huge turn out. We did, however, sell one onesie and we had a special order request which turned out to be a bigger project than we had hoped for, but with this special order we ended up breaking even with the cost of all our supplies. It was a good experience and I am looking forward to doing another one. It was also nice to spend some time with the SIL.
On Thanksgiving we ended up going to both of our grandparents homes for Turkey Dinner. We decorated cute Ginger Bread Houses, which were already pre-made by Phils sweet Aunt. It is always nice to be able to visit with family and we are grateful that Phils grandparents provide a place where we can all visit with one another. After only a couple hours of being with Phil's family, we packed the kids and ourselves into the car and headed to SLC to spend some time with my family. I always love visiting with my grandma. After dinner almost every time we all get together we usually watch a movie before heading out, and this year we watched Hancock. I thought it was a cute film. It wasn't what I was expecting it to be, but I liked it.
The day after Thanksgiving I hosted a bridal shower for my soon to be SIL McKell. She is going to marry Phils brother Michael in December. We are excited to have her be part of our ever growing family. It was nice to have all of Phils side of the family over.
I know this post is going on and on, but so much has happened... To continue we ended up going to the Temple Square lights on Friday. Beth had never been before so it was nice to have her with us and of course it was nice to have Russ and Mike and his soon to be bride McKell there too.
On Saturday(yesterday) Lisa and I went over to Phils grandmas house and finished our special order. We ended up embroidering t-shirts on Phils grandmas embroidery machine. She ended up doing most of the work. It probably took us about 6 or so hours to finish all of them and even though Amanda had a ton of things to do she stayed and embroidered all the shirts until they were done. Not only did she not have to let us use her machine she fed us lunch and showed me how to make an adorable little dress. Drezden ended up wearing it all day yesterday. I am excited to start sewing and for people willing to teach me some tricks!
Well, I guess that is about it. I am sure I have left a lot out, but I have so much to be thankful for and a wonderful family, I love them so much!!! Well, until next time... Oh, and I saw Twilight and I really liked it. I am excited to see the next one! Maybe I will read all the books again!

Happy Birthday to Vanessa

I know I am terrible at posting on our family blog, but today I have something special to post about. It is my Wife's birthday!!! She always does such a great job on my birthday of making me feel special, and I love her for it. Every year I always try to do the same for her, but always fall short. I think she had an okay birthday anyway. Thank you to everyone who gave her a call to let her know you were thinking of her. She really appreciates those calls.

She told me not to spend a lot of money on her present, so I got her a bunch of boxes of Hot Tamalies. Those are one of her faverite candys. I stacked them up in a pyramid so when she walked down in the morning she could not miss them. My faverite part of giving her presents is seeing her smile. I took a picture of the stack, maybe I can get Vanessa to upload that to the site.

Vanessa loves her little kids, but I thought she could use a break from them. This is the part where I fall short. I thought I would be able to handle the two of them and let her relax a bit. This is really hard because whenever I would be feeding Sullivan or paying attention to him, Drezden would slip off and try to play with her Mother. She loves her Mom so much. There were also a few times when Drezden would get a little grumpy so I would be trying to make her happy and Sullivan would decide it was his turn - and would do his best to make it known the only way he knows how. Luckily I have an understanding wife who was willing to step in - despite it being her day off - and help out her struggling husband. I think next year I might just get a babysitter.

The last part of her present is that she will go see the Twilight movie when it comes out. Last year I got her one of the books and she loved them. Hopefully that will make up for everything today.

A comforting email with the words of Elder Neal A. Maxwell

A comforting email with the words of Elder Neal A. Maxwell has passed among Latter-day Saints in California with these prophetic words delivered in 1979 while he was a member of the Presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy.

“Make no mistake about it, brothers and sisters, in the months and years ahead, events are likely to require each member to decide whether or not he will follow the First Presidency. Members will find it more difficult to halt longer between two opinions. President Marion G. Romney said, many years ago, that he had 'never hesitated to follow the counsel of the Authorities of the Church even though it crossed my social, professional or political life.'

“This is hard doctrine, but it is particularly vital doctrine in a society which is becoming more wicked. In short, brothers and sisters, not being ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ includes not being ashamed of the prophets of Jesus Christ. . . . Your discipleship may see the time when such religious convictions are discounted. . . . This new irreligious imperialism seeks to disallow certain opinions simply because those opinions grow out of religious convictions.

“Resistance to abortion will be seen as primitive. Concern over the institution of the family will be viewed as untrendy and unenlightened....Before the ultimate victory of the forces of righteousness, some skirmishes will be lost. Even in these, however, let us leave a record so that the choices are clear, letting others do as they will in the face of prophetic counsel. There will also be times, happily, when a minor defeat seems probable, but others will step forward, having been rallied to rightness by what we do. We will know the joy, on occasion, of having awakened a slumbering majority of the decent people of all races and creeds which was, till then, unconscious of itself. Jesus said that when the fig trees put forth their leaves, 'summer is nigh.' Thus warned that summer is upon us, let us not then complain of the heat."

Looking Back

Here is a photo to compare mine with. I know it may not be the best, but it takes a while to look through all the photos I have. I hope to beable to find photos of Phil to compare with too...
So, I have decided to post a few pictures of me as a baby and compare them to my children. Sometimes I wonder if Drezden looks like me when I was her age. I do have to point out that I think she is a much cuter baby than I was!

The one above is of my twin brother and me. I think we are about 1 in this picture.

Above:This is me about 1 yr
Below: My newborn photo(I am sure you all can tell)

Kids Cleaning and Laundry Galore

Oh the joys of domestic life! I guess it's not all bad... Although, I will have to admit that I have been failing in the cleaning department... and cooking... well, it seemed like I had everything down when it was just Drezden and I, and then I decided to have another child(which I love dearly). I am still adjusting to having two children and I think I am beginning to get the hang of things again. I know this because I am finally able to keep the front room clean again. YAY!
Well, motherhood is calling... Drezden needs something, time to go ;)

Craft Fair

So, my sister in law and I are going to have a booth at a craft fair in Washington Terrace on November 22. It will be both our first time doing anything like this. We haven't yet decided what we will sale, but we have a few ideas... Like nursing covers, homemade soap, things for babies, decorative journals... I am not sure what else, but we would like to make something that is easy and inexpensive. Do you guys have any suggestions? We would love to make things that people would buy...

2 months and counting

I think he is adorable! He is getting so big. Well, not soooo big, but he is growing. He will be 2 months on the 11th. Time is just flying. I can't believe Drezden is already 17 months old. So, here's to 2 months and more.

a couple updated photos

This was taken right after she was dropped off after being at grandmas for a week... Doesn't she look tired? She must have had too much fun while she was away...

If you look to the right this was taken right after I gave her a plastic knife to use while eating... She is crazy. The hose was stuck, well we couldn't pull it out so she decided to try and help it come loose.

DRIVE IN

Last night we decided last minute to go to the Drive In Theater. I know you all may be surprised that the Drive In is still open in October, but it is and we watched Wall-E and Kung Fu Panda.
I have to admit that I had high expectations of these two films, but they were still good. One reason we wanted to go was to see how Drezden would do at the Drive In, and surprisingly she did well. Although, when the first flick was over she was ready for bed and she was a little grumpy. We were going to leave, but after Phil had put her in the car seat and the baby in his she ended up falling asleep and Phil talked me into staying for the second.
I really enjoy doing things all together and it was a nice experience to take both kiddos to the movies.

Haha... I saw this on someones blog and I thought I had to do it myself and see... So, I uploaded a photo of Phil and myself to see what the results would be and here they are... One baby girl and one baby boy. Well, at least with the boy they have the hair color right ;)

I will have to save these and compare them to my kids when they get a little older.

I miss her...

So, this last week Phil, Drezden, Sullivan, and I have all been sick. Drezden was the better of us all and to help me out a little Phil's parents took Drezden for the week. So, she has been gone since Saturday and I miss her. I almost don't know what to do with myself. If it wasn't for Sullivan I would probably drive out to get her even though I am still sick.

Phil took this picture of Drezden right before he went to the UK. It was taken on about August 23? I think she is so cute and she just has so much personality.
Photobucket

She is just one of my favorite people in the whole world and I love her to death! She really helps make my life exciting. It is exciting to watch her grow, and sad too. I want to enjoy every moment with her.

I can't believe he is already a month old. Time sure does fly by. Drezden has been a great big sister and is adjusting better than I thought she would. We love Drezden and Sullivan so much and only wish and hope for the best. Here are a few photos of Sullivan including a couple with his big sister!

He's here!!!

Sullivan Paul Christensen was born August 11 at around 10 pm. He weighed 7lbs 5oz and was 21in long. He weighed the same as Drezden when she was born and was half an inch longer than her too.
The labor and delivery went well. I ended up going into the hospital to be induced. I arrived at the hospital at 6am. I went in and it took a while before they could find a good vein to get the IVs started. I elected to get an induction because I had the strep B bacteria again and I wanted to have enough time to get enough of the penicillin before the baby came. Well, I had plenty of time... haha. Anyways, It took a bit longer than I had expected. The baby just wasn't ready to come... I wouldn't say that I was in labor for 18 hours(maybe more like a few),but I was there for a total of 18 hours before the baby came. The pitosin didn't work like I thought it would, I was expecting it to put me in labor right away, but no luck. I was fine though, just bored.
Anyway, Sullivan is doing great. He is almost 3 weeks old now. Time goes by so fast. Drezden has been adjusting well. She is away with grandma right now and Phil is in the UK away on business, so it is me and Sullivan right now. Although I have had someone with me almost every day since Phil has been gone.
I will post pictures of Sullivan in a different post!

Primary!

Today in Primary our class gave the sharing time and we did our presentation on The Armour of God. I think it turned out pretty well. Hopefully maybe next time we will be better prepared and we will have to think of some new and fun ideas.

I guess we need an update!

Time sure does fly by! It seems like it hasn't been too long since we last posted a blog, but I guess it has been a whole month already. In the last month we really haven't done too much. We did get to see some old friends of Phil's a couple weeks ago and that was really nice. Phil really has made some good friends from his childhood days and it is nice to know that he still keeps in touch with them. I think I only keep in touch with a couple of people I went to high school with. It is nice to run into people here and there every once in a while to see what people have been doing with their lives. Sometimes I look at our life together and I am sometimes amazed at how far we have come. Although other times I wonder where I would be if I didn't make some of the choices that I have made.
I am glad that I have the life and the family that I do. I guess sometimes you really don't appreciate what you have until you look at other people (which I know you are not suppose to compare yourselves with others) and are happy that you have the life you do and not theirs.
Well, there are only 3 weeks left until we are expecting our little boy to come into the world. I hope Drezden can adjust well. Phil hopes that I will be able to adjust well. I know it will take a little while before I have things down. It wasn't easy with Drezden at first, but as time has gone by we have learned how to work with each other.
Well, if you don't hear from us before the new baby expect a post after the baby. We will definitely post pics. I know not all babies are cute when they are first born but I will post pics anyway!

Grass Finally!

Well, I am not sure how many of you actually knew we didn't have grass in our backyard... but anyways, now we do! Yesterday we laid sod for instant grass and pretty soon we are going to be able to enjoy it. I really wanted grass in the backyard because sometimes it is just inconvenient to walk to the park. Especially when I feel like I have to pee every 10 minutes. I hope to be able to get a little play yard in the back too, when the sod takes root so that Drezden can enjoy the backyard to the fullest. She is after all the main reason(not the whole reason though)I wanted grass in the first place.

June 12, 2008

Not too much has happened since I posted my last blog... Although Drezden had a little incident earlier this evening. I decided it was time for Phil to get a haircut so we all were outside and while I was giving Phil the haircut Drezden was playing on the steps and was playing with the hose and she fell face first on the ground. Because she had the hose in her mouth she cut her tongue and was bleeding quite a bit. She turned out to be just fine. It is crazy how easily little ones can get hurt... She is a tough girl and we love her so much.

Just felt like I should post something

Well, I guess it hasn't been too long since I last posted... but sometimes it feels like forever. For Father's Day Phil got DDR. I am excited to have it too. Although being almost 8 months pregnant is not really ideal for playing the game (especially since jumping is required). Drezden loves to play too. She will get on the dance pad and just start imitating Phil. It is really cute.
So, this week we have the opportunity to do something with Phils family. I am not sure what our plans are going to be. We really want to get things done around the house before the baby comes. Sometimes I can't believe I am pregnant again and so soon after Drezden. She is only 13 months old and I am due in August. *Yikes... So because of this I really want to get the house in order so that I can feel a little more at peace before having two little ones. I know it will be nice to have them both in our lives, but sometimes I feel a little overwhelmed with the idea that it is going to happen sooner than later.
I think of other pregnant women who are just so excited about having their babies or who are just simply tired of being pregnant and want to be done, but I am not ready... Even though I have been having a lot of backache with this pregnancy I am not ready to be done. It is so much easier to take care of the baby and Drezden while it is inside of me.
So, we watched The Bucket List earlier this evening. I thought it was a cute movie, although I can see why it didn't get the best reviews. I thought the story was good and I loved both of the main actors. I would recommend this movie to everyone at least once. It is not one of those movies you would want to watch over and over again, but it is one that I think most people would enjoy at least once.
Well, I guess I am going to be done for now. I have probably written enough for tonight. Well, you all have a wonderful week!

Something new... Something old...

Today has literally been a lazy day for us all here! Phil let me sleep in until 8 and then when it was 8 Drezden decided that it was time to take a nap, Phil wanted to take a nap too so I got to sleep till about 10 or so...We did, however, get a few things done today, but nothing that really needed to be done. One thing we did that we needed to do eventually was clean out the car. For some reason the car just attracts all sorts of stuff (mostly garbage like crackers and empty water bottles). It was about time we cleaned it out... Now I am not so embarrassed about parking the car next to anyone else's :). I am sure this is something Phil was not concerned about.

This morning the neighbor came over to get some shingles so her home teacher could patch a few spots on her roof. We had some just lying around that the previous owners had left so we told her a while back that she could have them if she wanted them. We have really enjoyed having the neighbors we do. Melanie is such a nice lady... She gave Drezden a little blow up pool today. I guess her neice has grown out of it so she figured we might be able to use it. She also gave us a little garden till that she said she was going to donate to the DI if we didn't want it. Also... a few weeks ago she gave us a hose she was going to throw away. It has a few kinks in it, but hey... it is a hose that we didn't have to buy! She is really fun to visit with and we hope to visit with her more.

So, something old... Yesterday we had a couple and their kids come over for dinner and then we played rock band, which was fun... So, because we had been playing it so late last night we didn't put it away and Phil decided to play it today and Drezden wanted to help him play the drums... I wanted to post a few pics of Drezden helping. I thought it was kinda cute, and it was funny because Phil really had no idea what Drezden was doing.

Here she is "helping" Phil with the foot pedal
Photobucket

I think she got a little bored so she tried to eat the cords while Phil was drumming
Photobucket

So, a few weeks ago we were at Macey's and they had these really cute benches for sale and Drezden had a lot of fun climbing on and off them... Phil decided we could get one for her and so here is a pic of her standing on it. I think it is cute. It is a Noah's Ark Bench!
Photobucket

Here is another one of her just sitting on it. It looks like she was blowing kisses...*sort of*
Photobucket

And here is one I just thought I would post just because I think Drezden is darling!

Random Slideshow

Just a random update...

Right now Phil, Drezden and I are in the living room watching the Count of Monte Cristo. I watched the film yesterday and I really enjoyed it. Phil wanted to watch it so here I am watching it again. I think it is a really good film, so those of you who haven't seen it I would recommend it.
Phil has been staying busy with work and loves what he does. Phil is a computer programmer. He works for L3 communications and is really liking the company. He has been with L3 for a few years now. He is going on his second year working full time. He does stuff with SNMP... Don't ask me what it is because I have no idea. I don't really understand what it is he does for a living, but it is nice that he loves what he does.
I am a stay at home mom. I stay with home with Drezden, she is a wonderful little girl. It is amazing how fast she is growing. She is only a year old and already she is walking and learning to use forks and spoons to eat. It is really quite amazing how quickly babies learn and grow within just a year.
I am currently expecting my second child and I am due in August. We are expecting a boy this time around. At first I really had hope for a girl, but I am getting more used to and more excited for a little boy. We have decided on a name... Sullivan Paul. I love the name Sullivan!
Well, I have written much for now... Until next time!

Drezden is 1!!! (this was written on her birthday May 4th)

So today is officially Drezden's birthday. It has been fun to watch her learn and grow. She is no longer a baby, which is a little sad but we are happy she is growing and developing and soon enough she will be a young lady. We love having her in our lives! She is definitely a blessing. We look forward to many more years with her and we know she will be a great big sister!

We love you Drezden!!!

Love, Mom and Dad

Here are some pictures of her from today!

Drezden got to try out her new swimsuit!

I guess it is time for a little update. I am not sure how many of you actually read what I post, but I will post anyway. So, nothing new is happening here in Tooele. Although, we have heard there is lots to do. I guess we will just have to get out in the community and see what is happening.

This last week Phil, Drezden and I went to a refresher course on giving birth. It was nice and I learned a few things that I didn't know before. Like birthing positions that you can do even if you decide to have an epidural. I thought it was interesting and I am really glad that I went. I think each time I go to the Tooele Hospital I feel even more comfortable with the idea that I will deliver there.

So, today Phil was outside with Drezden and he let her play with the hose. She really likes to get wet so we decided to get her in her swimsuit and let her play in the sprinkler. I think she enjoyed it, although, she enjoys climbing up the entry stairs much more. So, I am going to add a photo of her in her cute swimsuit. It is the first time for her ever using it!

I thought this one was a good one showing the water from the sprinkler.

Phil was saying this one reminded him of the little girl on the sunblock packaging.

I just thought this one was cute with her finger in her mouth... like she was thinking about something.

Thinking and Pondering

General Conference for the Church of Latter Day Saints just got over. Well, right now they are singing the last hymn and then it will be over until the afternoon session. I have not listened as well as I should have. I know that what the speakers say in these meetings is very important and maybe even vital to know, and we should follow the council.
Phil and I both think that we should improve ourselves. We feel like we need to be better saints and just better people.
I am sometimes just amazed at how much faith some of our church leaders, and church members have. I know at times in my life I have felt like I have had much faith. It seems like it was so much easier when I was younger to go to church faithfully and fulfill my callings. I want to have the same faith and desire to serve my Heavenly Father as I did when I was younger. I do believe in the gospel and I know it is the only true church in the world. I know that if I do and keep the commandments of God then I can live with Him someday...again. I want to be with Him again. I know He loves me, and I want to prove to Him that I love Him!

My LIfe...Update

Well, Today is April 2, 2008. It is kinda crazy to think about time and just how fast it has gone by. Phil and I have been married for almost 2 years now in June. It has been a busy 2 years for them. We have a beautiful 11 month old baby girl and a son on the way that is due in August. We are excited that our life together has gotten off on a good start, although it has been very fast... very very fast. Sometimes I wish we would have waited just a little bit longer to have children, but Drezden is such a blessing and I just love having her in my life. Even though she can be a pain in the neck she is one of the most beautiful babies I know (of course she is mine).
Phil is doing good. He enjoys his work and he loves to do things with computer science. His birthday is coming up this weekend and I have nothing planned for it. Phils birthday wish is to get the roof done. Back in January we had a pretty bad wind storm and we lost shingles and it has taken us this long to finally get it done. I am not really sure what Phil wants, it seems I should, but I just don't know.
Well, I have taken enough time with this blog... Until next time!
